Ahimsa Silk — The Silk of Peace

Ahimsa means non-violence. Eri silk is known as Ahimsa silk because its open-ended cocoons allow the moth to emerge naturally before the silk fibres are spun into yarn.

Rooted in Assam’s rich textile heritage, Eri silk has long been woven into the lives of its communities. From traditional shawls and quilts to the hands of skilled spinners and weavers, it carries the warmth of Assamese culture and generations of craftsmanship.

In 2024, Bodo Eri Silk received a Geographical Indication (GI) tag, recognising its regional heritage and the traditional knowledge of Bodo weavers in Assam.

At Motherly, we honour this living heritage through handspun, handwoven Eri silk, thoughtfully brought into a blanket for the next generation. A reminder that what we preserve today becomes the legacy we leave tomorrow.
